Anyone who knows me knows I love wigs and weaves, I have a lot of different styles and names for each one. As an actress it has also been a way for me to easily become a different character.
As wig and weave wearers know sometimes it can be a struggle to take care of the natural hair underneath a wig or weave. You forget cause the weave is looking pretty good on the outside or you get lazy thinking about the time and energy itβs going to take. So here are my quick tips to help keep natural hair healthy.
SHAMPOO & CONDITION β Select a shampoo and conditioner that best fits your hair and scalp type. Wash and condition regularly or as needed. Occasional hot oil treatments and deep conditioners under a hood drier or plastic cap while doing household chores are great for hair. If you arenβt able to wash your hair or are on bed rest you can also use a dry shampoo that you brush through your hair to remove dirty and oils.
BRAIDS, TWISTS & LOCKS β Braids and twists are a great way to protect your hair from the harmful heat of curling irons and blow driers. Keep your hair under any wig or weave cornrowed, it helps the wig or weave to lay flatter to your head for a more natural look. Twists are great they give you the option of two styles, one when your hair is twisted and another when they are dried, when you take them out you will have cool curls or waves. If you have locks, keeping them freshly done and moisturized with natural scented oils.
BLOWDRY, PRESS OR CURL β Use protector such as a gel, setting lotion, oils or cremes to put in hair prior to, during or after these services. Avoid gels, lotions, oils and hairsprays that are heavy in alcohol or chemicals. Use curling and flat irons made out of safe materials that are better for your hair.
SLEEPING CAP, SCARF OR CURLERS β If you want to preserve the look and health of your hair, you can also sleep in a sleeping cap, silk scarf or hair curlers with a scarf. Your significant other may not like it but your hair will love it.
