I love to sleep, especially mid-day naps, they are the best! I can sleep just about anywhere, but my favorite place to sleep is in my own bed!

We all spend hours a day in bed, so I was amazed when I did an episode of The Antoy Show on mattresses and found out what we are actually sleeping on. Check out what I learned below.

  1. Memory Foam is made of polyurethane and may contain formaldehyde, benzene, and naphthalene
  2. Gel Foam is made with viscoelastic which is a mixture of polyurethane foam and beads
  3. Latex mattresses are made of dense foam made from rubber or rubber particles
  4. Inner Spring is made of metal or steel coils or springs covered with wool or cotton treated with chemicals.
  5. Most mattresses are highly flammable so by law they must be treated with flame retardant toxic chemicals.
  6. VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) in mattresses break apart and form gases that give off an odor.
  7. Off-gassing is the odor of the harmful chemicals you smell on new mattresses that decreases over time.
  8. The materials and chemicals used in the production of most mattresses have been known to cause illnesses.

So basically, most of us are sleeping on a bed of oil and petroleum by products, rubber and other substances treated with toxic chemicals. Great! Now, Iā€™m not telling you to throw out your mattresses, but do some research, make educated choices share what you learned below.
